I Love Layering!

It's all about layering in the Fall and Winter seasons.  I absolutely love this trend.  There's no need to put away that favorite summer top or dress, just put a layering piece underneath (okay, okay, this might not work for EVERY piece but you get the idea)!   Some of my favorite places to go for these are Nordstrom, Gap, Target and H&M.  I like my layering pieces to have some lycra (or spandex) in them to give me that "snug" feeling ;-)  My staples are: longsleeve v-necks & crew necks, turtle necks, cotton and lace camis. I usually stick to just black and white but with the color blocking trend going strong, I might venture into some colors this season.

This stretch sheer longsleeve crew is from Splendid.   It's a bit spendy but they make a lot of their stuff in Supima cotton which is very yummy.  This top has spandex in it as well so it won't lose it's shape and it gives you that nice snug feeling.  I love the long length too!

This sheer turtleneck is from Nordstrom.   This chic layering look is a must.  I love everything about this.

I discovered this camisole bodysuit at the Gap (again, I'm finding gems there lately!!).   It sucks you in but does not give you panty lines.  It has 2 snaps at the crotch so going to the bathroom is no trouble ;-) The lace edge on the top allows you to let it peak out.  I love this so much I have two!

This is my FAVORITE basic camisole on the planet.  It is from Nordstrom in the BP dept.  It's cotton/spandex and fits super snug. The length is perfect too. I have almost every color and wear them all year round.

Fabulous Booties

These are my first pair of platforms! I have stayed away from this trend because a) I can't walk in heels and b) I hate looking like an amazon, but these are so easy to walk in I will have to get over the amazon feeling.  They come in a cool taupey grey too but I went with black since they are my first booties of the season and I'm a bit out of my comfort zone with the hugeness.  Anyhoo, I can't wait to rock these with skinny jeans and blazers, dresses and tights, and leggings and big yummy sweaters.  They are going to be awe-some (said in a sing-song voice)!

Seychelles is one of my favorite shoe brands because they are unique, funky and not overly priced. They are definitely my style!

Hitting the Gym

If you're like me, you would much rather spend your hard earned dollars on a cute bag or top, so when it comes to buying gym clothes you want to be as efficient as possible.   My quest started out looking for pants that were offered in long length (I'm a bit tall) because there is nothing worse than wearing floods.  I had such a hard time finding these, I was almost ready to pay top dollar when somehow I found myself in the Gap (I say this because I rarely ever go there) and lo and behold,  I saw a "long" sticker and nearly freaked out.  Not only was I ecstatic to find the long length but the quality is excellent.  Most of their Gapfit items are made from performace quality fabric (same as popular athletic brands) which basically means the sweat goes out so there aren't any big ol' wet circles.   They offer several styles (check out www.gap.com under BODY) but be sure to check fabric content as not all are in the performance quality fabric.  Most of the choices are black and more black but I always wear black bottoms.  If I want color, I'll pop it with my bra or tank.

My fave - the Gflex bootleg pants. They come in ankle (short), regular and long lengths.  They suck you in and fit nicely around the crotch area (if you know what I mean). Could LIVE in these!!

The Boom of FLASH Sales

FLASH sales website have taken the shame out of discount and have made it chic.  The idea is to offer great discounts on merchandise for a limited time (usually a couple of days).  While it started as a way for brands to unload excess inventory at a discounted price, it soon became a free way for brands to advertise and find new customers.  Paving the way is the Gilt Groupe who started this phenomenon in 2007 with the first FLASH sales website www.gilt.com.  They are still the leader today but a few websites have given them a run for their money, www.ideeli.com, www.ruelala.com and www.hautelook.com.  While most of these websites focus on fashion, they offer other categories such as home, travel and lifestyle.  In order to shop or view these websites, you must become a member.  This is as easy as entering your email and a password.  Once you're a member, you receive daily email alerts on the latest deals (you can turn these alerts off). To the skeptic who thinks there must be a catch, there isn’t.  While some items are “final sale” and cannot be returned, most things can be, and the returns are FREE. I have met no one who has not been completely satisfied with his or her experience, including me!  So, if you don’t mind your email inbox being cluttered with daily alerts and you don’t mind saving a buck or two, get on the band wagon and enjoy the deals with out the guilt.

Boots To Die For!

Black is BORING.  Try other colors.  I wear all my colored boots with black....yes, even brown!

Recover Your Face!

I came across this gel in the beauty aisle at Target during one of my Target shopping sprees.  The thing that drew me to it was the fact that it was a hydrating gel as opposed to a cream.  I am forever trying hydrating creams because my facialist keeps telling me my skin is de-hydrated.  I put it on at night and I wake up with a totally refreshed face.  I even sometimes put it on in the morning.  I have very sensitive skin and this seems to "calm" it down.  I highly recommend this if you have sensitive and de-hydrated skin!

My Sephora Faves

If you are anything like me, you can walk around a Sephora store for hours.  You go in for one thing and end up buying ten.  It was very tough to narrow down, but here are my top 5 faves for the moment:

1. fresh - brown sugar body scrub

This is the most luscious body scrub ever.  It has a nice lemon/sugar scent and makes my skin feel so smooth.  The price is a bit steep but it lasts for a couple of months and it's one of my selfish indulgences.

2.  COACH - Poppy Flower fragrance

I was given this sample (Sephora is so good w/ sample give aways) at my last purchase.  I have been a faithful Kai user for years but I think it's time for a change.  Love this scent!

 3. Too Faced - eyeshadow

I received a version of this in a points give away (if you are a Sephora shopper and are not on their points program, get on it!).  I love the way it shows you what color to put where.  It also lasts all day (especially if you put a primer underneath) and I have never gotten so many compliments!

4.  Buxom - lip color

This is my most recent purchase and I can't even tell you how excited I am.  The pencils are amazing for a base and the made-to-match gloss enhancer gives your lips a nice shine and tingly feelilng.  Also, they don't have nasty flavors like some glosses do (hate that). I absolutely love value packs! They really are the best "bang for your buck".

5.  Benefit - cheek tint

I have the bene tint and have been a user for years. I could never figure out how to apply blush and this is so easy and gives you that natural look like you've been out in the cold.  I still have some left, but when it's gone, I will definitely be buying this value pack and experimenting with the other tints!
